Properties and wood characteristic

Siberian larch is one of the heaviest softwoods with moderate stability. Longitudinal cracks can appear on the surface and also at cracks at the board ends, depending on outdoor climatic conditions. Avoid contact of wood with metal or metallic dust that creates blue-black stains on the wood. Use stainless steel fasteners only for fastening and contact with the wood. Siberian larch wood is less stable compared to Western Red Cedar or Thermowood heat-treated wood with considerably higher durability. It is strongly reccomended to use screwing method for fixing of Siberian Larch. Mounting by nailing is not appropriate. Unfinished or low maintananced wood color will change to a silver-gray if the wood is exposed to a weathering. It is important to understand that the choice not to apply a finish to the wood has long-term implications. In very dry climates, it weathers to a silvery grey color, but in most other climates, because of varying moisture and sun exposure conditions, wood does not weather uniformly and is likely to develop a dark, blotchy, grey appearance.
