About the Siberian larch wood
Siberian Larch is one of heaviest softwoods with natural durability. The most beneficial feature of larch is its natural resistance that results from its extremely high content of resin and high density. Siberian larch is very resistant to decay, because contains high tannin content, which allows its use without chemical treatment in cases where the other species leads to rot. These resins and preservatives act as a natural antiseptic which is very repellent to insects. Although such chemical composition of wood can significantly affect its natural resistance. The primary extractive in Siberian larch is Arabinoglactan, which is toxic to wood decay fungi.
Color and weathering
Wood is a natural material with a natural range of color tones. Color differences are characteristic for wood and allowed. Due to UV radiation, climate and humidity, wood weatheres and changes its original color. With a dry environment, it changes to a shade of gray, and exposure to moisture or dirt will cause blackening and discoloration to a dark shade. The time and degree of weathering depends on the method of treatment, location, local conditions, roofing, exposure of the wood to the weather and other influences on the wood.
Wood is natural material which react to climatic changes. Wood exposed to outdoor weather conditions change in volume, shrink and swell according climate changes. Tiny cracks, also cracks at the ends may apear due to wood shrinkage varying according to the relative humidity or changes in climatic conditions. Small width differences between boards may occur due to different wood expansion during moisture equalization between radial and tangential wood grain. Slight surface splitering may apear. Always pre-drill the holes in the wood for screws to prevent cracking. Use the stainless steel screws or fasteners only. Avoid contact with corrosive metals objects which makes hardly removable blue-black stains on the wood.
Siberian larch is durable softwood with hight contend of natural tannins and resins, however suitable water repellent finish extend its lifetime and helps to extend the nice look and prolongs the weathering process. For the best result we recommend natural protective oil base finishes by Saicos.
Before and during installation make sure that wood is not exposed to direct sunlight, rain, snow or other weather conditions. Keep wood covered under the foil or store it under the roof with relative humidity similar to outdoor conditions. Place the wood on stickers to allow air ventilation and keep wood out of moist and mold formation. Follow these storage instructions to prevent wood against twisting, bowing or other deformations which may apear during incorrect storage.
Care and maintenance
Clean your deck regulary, keep it out of dirt, soil, sediments and pollen. This prevents the penetration of dirt macropores into the wood. The black dirt stains can occure under objects like umbrellas stands, flower pots, bowls, mats and other where water and hight moisture can stand without proper air ventilation. Therefore carry these objects time to time and ensure natural drying and ventilation. This helps to avoid creating of dark spots on the wood.
