About Merbau
Merbau is a very hard, durable timber native to Indonesia, which, thanks to its unique properties and, in particular, its excellent stability, ranks amongst the very best timbers in the world. Solid merbau can be used without any problems in hot-water underfloor heating systems, where it offers low thermal resistance and thus enables excellent heat transfer. Merbau is a highly decorative timber with a wide range of colour tones. Merbau is a very hard timber with a very low shrinkage rate; it is highly stable and is virtually unaffected by changes in humidity. It is a highly decorative timber with an equi-axial grain, durable (even when buried in the ground) and resistant to fungi, insects and weathering. The colour of this timber varies from light reddish-brown to dark brown and reddish-brown with various shades; it usually has an even-grained structure, though it is sometimes slightly streaked due to the twist of the fibres. the wood is highly decorative, with a slight sheen. Characteristic of this wood are fine yellow, golden veins – striations on longitudinal cuts containing a yellow-brown substance (oily resin).
